With a spooling printer, you will be able to send large document files even when the current task is ongoing.

The functionality of spooling printer

What exactly happens in spooling printers? Regardless of the computer, you are using, all of them are made for spooling. However, if you use a printer that uses a shared network, the spooling entirely depends on the network. All the printing jobs in the queue are managed by a “spooler program”. The program keeps on sending all documents in the order they were received. In the beginning, it might seem frustrating but it is designed in order to improve printing speed and efficiency.

Benefits of Spooling printer

Spooling is very common in an environment where hundreds of computers are connected to single printer. However, if different computers use a different computer, the spooling technique is not used. In layman’s language, spooling is an automatic process of managing printing in proper order. The spooling printer ensures that the network or printer is not flooded.

Spooling includes a queue of documents that need to print which makes deleting any particular document before printing it easy and quick. For instance, if you have sent a wrong document for printing or you need to make some changes before printing, you can delete that specific task from the queue. To delete a specific task, you need to “open all active printers” from your settings and cancel printing that specific document. Spooling helps in saving a lot of time and ink at the same time.

Spooling options

When it comes to spooling, there are typically two ways to go about it. You can either choose to start printing immediately or after you have spooled the last page that you want to print. Obviously, the first option will fast and is preferred by many. However, if you choose the second option, you can differentiate between low priority and high priority documents and print them accordingly.

While most of us do not know about spooling, it is one of the best printing features.
